Metaverse Live!

Project Iamus and the Iamus Dashboard

The new Metaverse Server is live at https://metaverse.vircadia.com/live (There’s nothing for you at that link, it’s for machines only!) It is now providing account and domain management services for Vircadia.

It’s very much in testing and has not been included in an official release yet. However, Interface and Domain Servers in future releases and dev builds will be using the Vircadia Metaverse Services by default.

Note: A user cannot sign into a domain that is on a different metaverse than they are. However, they may still visit any domain that allows anonymous access.

You can head over to https://dashboard.vircadia.com/ to register and manage your account. Though, there is still the chance for hiccups and information loss. Whilst everything is a bit rough around the edges for the Metaverse and its Dashboard, we will continue to patch things up as we transition users and domains over. Slowly but surely, we’ll take the edge off. 😉

If you want to know how you can help in this pursuit, drop by our Discord or join one of our in-world meetings! Check our events calendar for more.

Content? Approved!

Thanks, Philip & Ryan!

We’ve been progressing with bootstrapping our brand new freely licensed content library. I sent an email to High Fidelity asking to see if we could add some of the worlds that they’ve created to it. Thankfully, I got a reply and a yes to adding three worlds: “HQ”, Zaru, and Daybreak Island.

Getting license to release three worlds is not only great for people using them as wholemeal environments, but rather each is infinitely more valuable for its pieces rather than the sum. Why?

Because each world carries individual assets crafted with quality and optimized for High Fidelity, now Vircadia. Something as simple as a few house furnishings such as plants or chairs can make a huge impact on world creation for new users. Being able to start with a complete world + a library of assets to expand it with allows users to build out their use case in virtuality without having to delve into 3D modeling or scripting.

Sharing is Caring

Vircadia only does… everything?

In only the past few months, Vircadia has been presented to and used by many people and organizations for a plethora of use cases: art exhibitions, expos, educational events, virtual offices, and more. Being Apache 2.0 means that Vircadia respects the user’s choices by being completely permissive with no strings attached. This enables any single user, group, or company to create virtual worlds without the worry of licensing and legal issues.

For the Vircadia Project, I think embracing collaboration is our strength.

When people find use with Vircadia, they tend to also find ways to further improve it for their use case. These changes and feedback can then be passed back to the main Vircadia project to help solidify their improvements for future use and iteration. Plus, it also has the side effect of improving the platform for others. And when others find value in the platform, the cycle tends to continue.

This is why a permissive and collaborative project will be the foundation for our pursuit of the metaverse. With this, we may yet stand a chance to make a free and open metaverse; ultimately, worlds worth living in.

Thanks to this week’s testers and code reviewers!

The community and active development group is larger and more diverse than you’d expect!

There is much time and effort put into continually testing and reviewing new changes to the Vircadia project’s many core components.

Join the Metaverse Revolution

Vircadia is a FLOSS decentralized metaverse platform. It is cross platform, with support for Windows, OSX, Linux, & Android. Development is distributed across many volunteers and their various contributions, big and small.

Documentation

We need documentation writers! The platform is constantly evolving and has plenty of documentation to help new users and veteran develoeprs alike take full advantage of it. Even the small things make a huge impact.

If you are multilingual, our international users could use your help!

If you simply want to help out on small things such as typos, errors, short guides, etc… your help and participation is appreciated!

Development

Vircadia has many components, you can contribute to any of the following:

  • Interface
    • C++
    • JavaScript
    • Web Apps (Vue.js, etc.)
    • QML
  • Server
    • C++
    • HTML + JavaScript
  • Metaverse Server
    • TypeScript

Engine. Platform. Metaverse.
